Left: The Civic Trust Award, commissioned from McKenna by the brick manufacturer Steetley Brick, which was to eventually become Ibstock Brick. John Mckenna designed the tri sided truncated pyramid with a panel depicting an aspect of the constuction industry on each face. His original idea was for it to be bronze cast but Steetley went to their Cadeby Stone Quarry in Yorkshire to have the work created in stone in a sandblasted format.

'Defiants' brick relief sculpture
This project entailed A4A's John McKenna and Darren Sutton working with what was then Baggeridge Brick to produce a series of brick relief panels for a perimeter wall of a new build scheme at the former Pendeford aerodrome in Wolverhampton.
The brick panels carried relief brick sculptures of the fighter planes made by Boulton & Paul. This company had made windows but during the second world war made small fighter aircraft with the distinctive rear gunner's turret. The aircraft had good success at night time engagements.
